For all those who want to create their own online store, we bring to you Shopify. It is a subscription to a software service that offers you to create a website and use their shopping cart solution to sell, ship and manage your products. Using their service, you can get an access to easy to use admin panel where you can add products, process orders and enter and store data.
For a monthly subscription of $29/mo you are able to build a full functional online store that you can use to sell digital or physical goods. Shopify also offers limited free trial of 14 days.
And to set up the entire platform takes just 15 minutes. Still cannot believe? Follow these steps and get your dream business out there.
Here you’ll see how to use Shopify in a step-by-step manner.
1. Signing up with Shopify
2. Set up your online store
3. Choose a design for your site
4. Add your products
5. Launch your blog
6. Add domain name
1. Sign Up with Shopify
- Visit Shopify.com. Use the signup form to create an account.
- Enter the required details and click the ‘Start free trial’ button.
- Your store name needs to be unique. You’ll be asked for a few more details, including your name, address, country and a contact number.
- Once complete, click ‘I’m done’.
2. Start Setting Up Your Online Shop
After you’ve signed up you’ll be directed straight to your store admin screen. Now you can start customizing your store, uploading products and setting up payments and shipping.
3. Choose a “Theme” or a “Layout”
Go back to the main dashboard, and select the Customize the Look of Your Site button. This area asks you to customize anything from logos to colors. This takes a bit of tinkering, but the main part you want to focus on is the link that asks you to Visit the Theme store.
Shopify has its own official theme store. All themes come with a comprehensive list of modifications you can make without having to touch a line of code. The premium themes come with more modifications, but you can also achieve a great looking site with a free one.
Follow the steps given below and get the theme you desire-
- Browse the theme store
- Look for functions and reviews
- If you are good to go, get one for yourself!
4. Add Your Products to The Store
Navigating the bar on the left select ‘Products’. You will then see a blue ‘Add a product’ button in the top right corner of the page.
Also product images can make a sale so make sure you show your products off to their best and highlight any special or unique features with close up photos. To keep your store looking tidy we suggest you keep all images the same dimensions.
Once everything is filled out, click the ‘Save product’ button in the top and bottom right corners.
Click on the tab to the left of the dashboard called Payments. This area allows you to select from dozens of payment processors such as Stripe and Authorize.net.
Shopify also has its own payment processor which is super easy to implement. Simply walk through the steps to activate your payment processor. This allows you to accept payments and put those payments in an account.
5.Launch your blog
Before your site can go live you need to add a few more details about your company and how you plan to make deliveries and pay tax.
6. Add a Domain Name
• To get your site live you’ll need a domain name. You have two choices.
• Firstly you can buy a domain from Shopify and it will be added to your store automatically. These domains typically cost $9-$14 USD per year.
• Also you can purchase a domain from a third party such as GoDaddy. These domains start from $10.00 USD a year.
If you have managed that way – congratulations. You should now have a fully working online store.
If you want to explore alternatives, see below:
WooCommerce works differently in that it’s a plugin that must be installed on a WordPress website. It’s a wonderful plugin with product and inventory management tools, but it requires additional technical knowledge to install WordPress on a hosting account, choose a WooCommerce compatible theme and upload the WooCommerce plugin.
It’s definitely a little cheaper but requires a steeper learning curve. Either way, it can be a great alternative.
So, for all those non-techies or professionals as well as beginners wanting to save their time and looking for ways and means of setting up your dream online store- maybe a sports store, a boutique, an NGO helping the poor selling home made products or probably looking t scale up and bring your offline store online, Shopify is your thing. And with Shopify you are just a step away from taking on the world.
A platform for small and big businesses alike is at your doorstep now!
